Christian Louboutin is a French fashion designer that is known for his high-end stiletto footwear with shiny, red-lacquered soles. He founded his company in 1991, while he was working freelance for some big fashion designers.

Born in 1963 Christian Louboutin belongs to a decade of amazing fashion designers. Nowadays he doesn’t only sell women shoes but also men shoes, purses, wallets, cosmetics and fragrances. During the start of his company his main clientele where celebrities. The first customer in his shoe salon was Princess Caroline of Monaco.

These days his products are also for sale to the public and everyone can enjoy his designs. One of the less known facts of Christian Louboutin is that before he became a designer, he went through a punk phase and played in a few movies, including the cult classic Race d’Ep.

He was also part of the so called “bande du Palace” a group of hard partying teens and pre-teens that included Eva Lonesco who were a fixture of the well-known Parisian nightclub Le Palace.

His signature shoes are women stiletto footwear with red-lacquered soles. The reason he was fascinated by stilettos was because when he went to Africa, women were not allowed to wear sharp stilettos inside building. The people were afraid they would damage the wood flooring. During his life this idea was in the back of his mind while designing his shoes. Louboutin said. “I wanted to create something that broke rules and made women feel confident and empowered.”

After traveling a lot he returned to Paris and sent his portfolio with high heels to different top couture houses. He got hired by Charles Jourdan. Subsequently, Louboutin met Roger Vivier, who claims to have invented the stiletto, or spiked-heel shoe. In Vivier’s atelier he became an apprentice. Later Louboutin designed women’s shoes for Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Maud Frizon.

Even if it’s not for buying his shoes, the Louboutin Boutique is worth a visit during your stay at our hotel on boulevard Haussmann, Paris. It is a great place to see how Louboutin his shoes evolved during the years and pick up a trace of one of the most famous shoe fashion designers of the 20th century.
