Lanvin is a multinational high fashion house. It is the third oldest French fashion house that is still in operation. When you are staying at our boutique hotel on Haussmann Boulevard, the Lanvin Boutique is definitely worth a visit. For years the Lanvin Boutique was known for women clothes, but since 2005 they added a men’s collection.
The fashion house of Lanvin was founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889. She made clothes for her daughter, Marie-Blanche de Polignac. The designs attracted the attention of some wealthy people. They requested copies for their own children. It didn’t take long before Lanvin was making the clothes for their mothers and some famous persons in Europe were part of the clientele of her new boutique. In 1909 Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture, which gave her a formal status as a couturière.
The Lanvin empire expanded rapidly with a dye factory, home décor, menswear, furs and lingerie shops over the years. The most intriguing expansion was the creation of a perfume named My Sin, an animal-aldehyde based on heliotrope. It is worldwide considered as a unique fragrance. Later Lanvin introduced their signature fragrance Arpège that was based according to Lanvin on her daughter’s playing the piano. Jeanne Lanvin was one of the most influential designers of the 1920s and 1930s. The Lanvin trademark of clothes was a lot of intricate trimmings, virtuoso embroideries and beaded decorations with a clear, light and floral colors. Jeanne Lanvin passed away in 1946.

The company was left to her daughter who passed away in 1956, after this a cousin inherited it and he sold it to L’Oreal in the mid-sixties until 1996. Lanvin has known many different CEO’s during the years but they all had one thing in common, they earned their marks in the French fashion industry. Since 2013 Lanvin is the official tailor of the London soccer club Arsenal FC. During the last five years Lanvin has had five different creative directors. The current creative director is the French designer Bruno Sialelli, he worked prior at the Spanish brand Loewe together with Jonathan Anderson.
Nowadays the brand presents unique and precious models, as cocktail dresses with maxi ruffles which enrich the waist or the décolleté, and dresses characterized by a soft volume, where fabric follows the natural body movement. The most famous icons from Lanvin are the ribbon-dress and the bustier. This popular seduction tool you can find in many different varieties, in leather, latex, with micro studs and embroideries, cross-stitch, in a sadomasochism version or studded with Swarovski diamonds.
